But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:6 NIV
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 NIV
Faith. It’s something we all struggle with, daily. Even if you try to deny it, faith is something hard for a human to have during ruff times. Recently, we’ve struggled with our faith. We thought that reading The Bible 24/7, going to church every sunday, and praying for certain amount will make us have “faith”. In reality, it’s not about how many times you’ve prayed or how many times you’ve went to church, that’s not what faith is. Faith is to truly to believe and trust in someone or something. Jesus said Himself, that if you have the faith of a mustard seed, you’ll move mountains.
God doesn’t require us to do any work, Jesus did all of the work, but He does want us to have faith in Him. We might not always know what He is doing, but God always has a bigger picture. Whether it’s failing your school year, relationship between you and your significant other, or anything else that could be very stressful and heart breaking, God has it under control. He’s the healer of all broken hearts, the repairer of all things broken.
The thing I’ve learnt is even through your storms, you have to continue to praise God and trust Him in the mist of you storms. God doesn’t need you perfect and sunshine, He wants you even if you’re broken and contrived. He sees you as a beautiful creature, a wonderful being. All He needs you to do is to have faith. Think of Peter and when he stepped upon the water. He had all the faith in the world as he stepped on water, as he seen Jesus do it. He knew he could believe Him when Jesus said to step on the water, and Peter was still astonished. However when Peter had seen what he was doing, he sank. Peter sank down the water, losing his faith in Jesus.
That’s what happens when we lose our faith, when we begin to see the doubt. We sink. As we stated before, Jesus said you could have the faith as much as a mustard seed and still move mountains. That’s all it takes, is just a little faith. Once you gain a little faith, that faith grows into something more. The faith grows more and more once you gain that faith.
Another disciple of Jesus that also lost faith was Thomas. After the death of Jesus, all hope was lost. When Jesus reappeared after three days, Thomas couldn’t believe it. You can see throughout John 20:24-29, Thomas doubted Jesus. He swore that Jesus was dead, because it seemed impossible for a man to be brought back to life. But He forgot one thing, anything is possible with God. All He needs you to do is to have faith, that’s all He requires from you.
So gain your faith, pray that your faith is made stronger through your storms. Have faith as much as a mustard seed, and allow it to grow. Plant it, and it’ll grow into something much more bigger.
