Shame. It keeps you up at night. It creeps up on you when you least expect it. Fills your head with lies. Makes you want hide and feel all these insecurities. It keeps you silent. Makes you think everyone will love you if you just don’t exist. You blame yourself because of what it does to you. If there’s a place to blame someone, it makes you the first to volunteer to say  “it’s my fault.”

Shame: it’s ugly and it lies to make you feel bad.

When you sin or make a mistake, it piles up all these reasons for you to think: You’re a mistake. You’re a failure. You’re a loser. You have no hope, no future, so you might as well give up now. And in case you didn’t know … all of that is LIES.

Then shame can be oh so helpful and tell you ways/things you can do, to help get rid of this feeling and make people love you! Stuff like: if you had a girlfriend/boyfriend you’d be more liked. If you would lose weight more people would like you, and you’d be in a relationship. Maybe if you wore a certain brand of clothing, or make up, you’d be well liked and people would love you! And you would finally get rid of that feeling. Once again if you didn’t already know (insert girlie emoji were she has her hand palm up), ALL OF THAT IS LIES!!!

Here’s some truth:

  • Some people will not like you no matter what you do or don’t do and that’s okay (“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for there’s is the Kingdom of Heaven.” -Matthew 5:10). Some people will love you just for being YOU. Don’t change for anyone. In fact always be YOU, and never try to fit in. It’s never fun when you’re like all the rest. It’s so boring.
  • It doesn’t matter what you weigh!!! And all that matters is that you are healthy because you’re body is a temple (1 Corinthians 6:19). Concentrate on being healthy and your relationship with God! And it’s so true when they say “put God first, and everything else will fall into place”, because He is the reason things work out the way they should. God always has a plan and forever He is the One who is in control.
  • Being the world’s version of “sexy”, “handsome”, & “beautiful” is SO NOT WHAT IS TRULY BEAUTIFUL OR HANDSOME!! Beautiful/handsome is being confident in who you are, and knowing who you are. And how you find all of that and get it, is through Christ! Know who you are in Him, and watch yourself feel confident and realize: no matter what you look like you are beautiful/handsome! Because God says so.
  • And lastly but surely not least: Chasing the things of this world will leave you empty. The things of this earth is not what your heart desires, or needs. Your heart wants, needs, and truly desires God & Jesus. They are what your soul thirsts for. If you drink from Them, you shall never thirst. Their well never runs dry.

God doesn’t want you to be a slave to those things. He even doesn’t want you to feel the bad feelings that come along with shame after you sin. He wants you to run to Him as fast and as hard as you can before shame catches you. Shame is from Satan. Freedom is from God.

Don’t be a slave to fear, drugs, sex, money, failures, or shame (and shame is part of all those things). Run to God and become free!

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” -Luke 16:13

Remember: you are loved. You are beautiful/handsome! You are wanted. God calls you all those things and so much more!! Own the titles and names He gives you, not what shame calls you. He created you the way you are for a purpose. There are reasons behind everything He does. And one day, we’ll understand it all.

Stay unashamed guys, and if you’re still struggling to get there … “Keep on, keeping on, keeping on.”

Xoxo, Unashamed Couple
