You are worth more than birds,100 dollar bills,
And yes, everything in between

YOU. Stop for a moment and really think about it. YOU- insert name are the most VALUABLE thing in the entire UNIVERSE! And contrary to what you might believe at the time, you are meant to live. You are meant to breathe.
Would you like to know how I know this?
Check your pulse right now.
Is your heart beating?
Of course it is!
That’s all the proof I need, friends. There’s no debate- I win. Look, I know you may think you are a mistake and that you shouldn’t be alive right now, but the God that spoke this world into existence created you. But such a Big God wouldn’t care about me- I’m tiny compared to the universe… And that’s true- you are. You are small. Now, I want you to take a moment and try and think of the simplest thing in creation that you possibly can. You may think of the atom, bacteria, a cell in your body, small stuff. But why does the size of the thing impede it’s worth, exactly? Why do we automatically assume that the size of something has to do with how complex or important it is?
The atom for instance, that is the smallest matter in creation. But if it was just the slightest bit off- guess what would happen. It would set off a chain reaction and the universe would simultaneously explode!
Did you know that the world should be completely taken over by bacteria? To put this statement into perspective, over 10,000 bacterium can fit side-by-side EASILY on the dot of this “i”. When bacteria asexually reproduce, they literally made a copy of themselves, and split into two, and twenty minutely later both the parent and the offspring can do it again! And the time it takes for them to be fit to “copy themselves” again shrinks until it only takes a few seconds. MILLIONS of bacteria making copies of themselves. That’s TWO MILLION in A FEW SECONDS. With that said, it sounds like everyone on the planet should be sick right now, huh? Well, God wasn’t about to leave us hanging. He created the bacterium to go on a feeding frenzy of sorts when it comes across a dead host. It always starts with just one bacterium. When it eats, it reproduces, and the offspring do the same. The more they reproduce, the more bacterium there are, and that means the food supply will dwindle. Once that happens, they can’t shut off their “feeding frenzy” mode. They begin to then eat each other! Which balances out the ratios.
Without going into too much detail, the smallest things in creation can be pretty complex, as you see. Now compare your size with the size of an atom. Over a quadrillion atoms can very easily fit on the head of a pin. You’re pretty stinking giant compared to that! So, if God cares about every single atom on this earth (which it’s obvious that he does- since the universe hasn’t blown up) then wouldn’t he care about YOU so much more?
What about a bird? Yeah, a bird is pretty huge compared to bacteria, or atoms too. Well, let’s look at what God says about birds in Matthew 10:29-31:
“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin?
And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.
But the very hairs on your head are all numbered.
Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than MANY sparrows.”
God knows how many hairs are on your head. Do you think he counted them one day because he was bored and had nothing better to do? No, of course not. He did it to show us how much he cares. Why would he do that to something that didn’t matter, exactly?
God cares about all of his creation. From atoms to aardvarks. From bacteria to baboons. Think about that verse again. Not ONE sparrow (bird) falls from the sky outside of God’s will. Meaning he cares about every single bird that dies. He pays attention to every BIRD that passes away. They’re like his pets! If you’ve ever had a pet, you know how difficult it is when they pass away. It’s like that, only even more intense because they are HIS CREATION.
Have you ever been outside, and looked at a squirrel, and thought “Look at that worthless thing. That squirrel was a mistake, God never should of created it. That thing shouldn’t be alive right now.” Well, I hope that you haven’t, but I have a pretty good guess that the answer is no. Why is that? Because you know it’s God’s creation, and that it’s alive because of Him. So if we can accept that fact for Chipmunks or squirrels, or birds- why can’t we accept that with US? After all, our value is so much more than MANY birds.
Check out Ephesians 1:4-5
“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”
Did you know that God planned you before he laid the foundations of the earth? Meaning this is before he created the WORLD- he was thinking about YOU. Because he LOVES you! It’s like if you don’t have any children, and want children, then you’re probably going to think about your future kids.
That’s what God was doing there because he loves you.
But I’m way too broken and have sinned too much for God to STILL love me. Maybe he did then, but there’s no way now. I started out with some worth, but it’s gone now…
Well, isn’t that interesting… I know you feel pretty broken up and destroyed right now. But let’s say I’m in the middle of the street, and call attention to myself. I get a hundred dollar bill out of my back pocket and lay it on the ground. People would recognize it has worth to it. If I told them “Whoever get’s to it first, keeps it.” There would be definitely be some takers.
But what it I pulled out the bill, ripped it to shreds, threw it to the ground, spit on it and then ground it into the concrete. Then offered it to people. No one would want it then! They would see it as worthless- I just wrecked it’s worth by destroying the paper bill. Maybe one person who was truly desperate for it would take the time to find every single piece of the money and tape it all back together. Guess what- IT HAS THE EXACT SAME WORTH THAT IT DID WHEN IT BEGAN! It is still worth $100 dollars. God does that for us. It is true that most people will not go and take this time to find all your pieces and put them back together, but I promise you GOD will.Because he is desperate for our love, he wants us to accept him!
So, I hope it’s quite obvious that God cares about all these small, tiny, seemingly insignificant things. Therefore, you don’t seem so small now, do you? God created you. He thought of you before the foundations of the earth was laid down by a single word from his mouth. Do you want proof that you are mean’t to be alive? Your heart is beating, pumping blood through your veins every second. You inhale, you exhale. Drawing in oxygen, and blowing out Carbon Dioxide. If God didn’t want you to be alive- you wouldn’t be alive, my friends. But the God of the universe thought to make YOU.
Then, because He loves you so much he gave his ONLY boy. His ONLY son, to be beaten until it wasn’t lawful to say he looked like a man anymore. To be mocked, and despised, and spat on and betrayed by one of his own. To have thorns pierce through his temples. To have nails DRIVEN into his flesh, nailing him to a rough wooden cross where people continued to mock him and hate him.
And do you know what? Instead of Jesus having hate for the people who treated him this way, as he was dying on a cross- as he had to push up with every ounce of strength in him to just bring in a BREATH; do you know what he did? He looked to the sky and said “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do.” ON THE CROSS, BLEEDING AND DYING HE ASKED FOR GOD TO FORGIVE US. (Luke 23:34)
JESUS DID THAT FOR YOU! Your worth will not be found in the world, but you can find your worth in Jesus, who is ready to accept you as you are- no matter how many pieces you’re missing. No matter how broken you are- he understands it. YOU were worth it to Jesus- someone blameless and holy to DIE for you and your sins. He did it for you! He did it for me! WE ARE WORTH IT.
Your heart is beating, your blood is pumping, your lungs are working.
Jesus died and paid the price so you can be priceless.
And you are.
